baby shower invitation

With an ever-growing belly (and my sister's persistent nagging), I thought it was about time I designed my baby shower invitations. I can't believe how quickly time is flying — George is almost 30 weeks! No mistaking my baby bump for an overly indulgent lunch now. As much as I love it, I really do wish I could get some SLEEP. Feeling a little like a zombie in auto-pilot these days. I know, I know — good prep for when George decides to grace us with his/her presence.

Along with the invitation, I decided to make little fabric-covered button magnets to send to my guests, so that they may display them on fridge in style! They're a cinch to make and relatively inexpensive, too — I used leftover fabric from little Lucy's quilt, so just needed to purchase self-cover button kits and magnets. I had the brainwave since having already made a dozen or so for George's room. No, George's room does not contain a fridge (though come to think of it, that could be handy for midnight snacking), more on the nursery decoration another time!

I'm still loving the high tea theme, and thought that it particularly suits a lazy Sunday afternoon with my girly mates chatting like little chooks. I've had some extra cupcake practice recently too, with the RSPCA cupcake day we staged at work. We really upped the ante this year (you can read about last year's efforts in the 'bake sale' post), raising a cracking $842 for the very worthy charity. Mum and I baked like fiends on the Sunday prior, whipping up ('whipping up' sounds like it was a quick affair — trust me, it wasn't) a double batch of Donna Hay's 'Raspberry Trifle'1 — a vanilla bean and raspberry cupcake drizzled with some sweet sherry2 and topped with a whipped custard cream; and a Lamington-inspired cupcake that I made from combining a couple different recipes — a light coconut cupcake3 with a raspberry jam centre and chocolate mousse frosting4. Both were pretty darn yummy, if I say so myself, so will probably be replicating them on baby shower eve.
