Ever since I got my hot little hands on my wool felt freckle ottoman (you can see it in this post here), I've been a wee bit obsessed with felt. I'd been pondering what little cushion I could use on the feeding chair in the baby's room, when I had a bright spark — I know, I'll make one from felt fabric! Yes, that is what I shall do!
I was disappointed with the range of felt fabrics at my local craft mega-store (which will go unnamed), and so began scouring the 'net for a quality alternative. And boy, did I find one.
B&M Felt, operating out of Perth (wish they were here in Melbourne so that I could visit their awesome-looking store!), import beautiful quality 100% wool felt fabrics made in Germany. It's available in three thicknesses, 22 gorgeous colours, and dyed with environmentally-friendly and non-toxic dyes. So now, the hardest decision is: which colour to choose? To make my choice a little easier, I purchased a sample board from their website for the bargain price of $8. And yipee! It arrived today.

So, at this stage I'm thinking it could be cool to use a different colour on either side of the cushion — what do you think? And a contrasting blanket stitch around the outside? And maybe a central button… check out this YouTube clip on how to do upholstery buttons — so clever!
B&M also have a page with hints and tips for working with felt (phew!), you can find it here. If you're discovering a love of all things felt too, check out B&M's Felt blog. I am blown away by the versatility of the fabric, and the very clever creative peeps who make the most of it! Love, love, love. Below are a couple of my faves — click on the images to go to the source.

Hey Claire :) I was so chuffed when I found these guys, though I have since discovered they're out of stock in my colour/thickness/dimension combo... drats! I've emailed them twice and haven't heard back, hopefully it won't be too long before they replenish their stocks. Let me know how you go! |
