saturday treat

Roast mushroom, ricotta insalata, white truffle oil, garlic and parsley wood-fired pizza

It was such a beautiful day today, we couldn’t resist taking a drive to the Yarra Valley for lunch. If you’ve never been to Giant Steps Innocent Bystander in Healesville, you really ought to give it a go. Not only does the cafe/bistro serve wood-fired pizzas and bakery goodies, but they do wine and cheese tastings and sell all manner of jams, sauces and chutneys. So delish. We tried the roast mushroom, ricotta insalata, white truffle oil, garlic and parsley pizza, plus the pork and pistachio terrine with mustard pickles and freshly toasted baguette. Both were superb.

Unfortunately we missed the breakfast specials — I can definitely recommend getting there before 12 noon to savour the huevos rancheros — baked eggs with white beans, chorizo, feta and spinach. You need to allow 20 minutes from ordering, but it is definitely worth the wait.

While you’re there, cross the car park to Little Creature’s sister store, White Rabbit, to pick up your favourite brew to take home, or just lounge on the couches for a lazy arvo. Bottoms up.
